Batteries

What to keep for batteries. Where to keep batteries. How to rotate batteries.

The first place I start with batteries these days is "Keep a lot of AA and AAA batteries". Theres a lot more to it than this but it seems to me, today most things that run on batteries run on AA or AAA cells. How many to keep? Well that's up to you, but here's some discussion on it.

The second thing which is actually two things, is know what batteries your stuff consumes and when you buy one, buy two. Lots of items run on CR2032 batteries but how many folks have spares of these? Probably not a lot. If you're a beginner at this, when you buy a battery for an item, buy a second and put it in your stache.

Organization: I like having a central organized location of batteries at home. One spot to keep them, not all over the house, one spot where I always know there will be batteries. I like some of the organizers you see online that hang on the wall allowing easy access. That's a great place to start, but many folks will have more than what one of those can hold which might call for additional shelf space, or an additional organizer. One thing I've not figured out yet is how to rotate that stock. TBH these days, I don't use a ton of batteries knowing that many devices out there have built in batteries. One thing I've thought of is starting a small battery store where I'd actually sell batteries and ensure that I always have at least my desired quantity of batteries in stock. I like the idea of having maybe 50 of each type of AA and AAA around with a lower count of other sizes.

So how many batteries do I need: Well, as with anything, what do you want to be prepared for? FEMA suggests being prepared for a 72 hour incident at a minimum. Is this where you want to be? Do you want to be ready for a longer stretch without being able to acquire more? I'm writing this July 30,20021. As of today, there's a national shortage of spray paint. Why? From what I've been reading, covid related shortages plus a cold snap in Texas taking out a large chemical stock are main drivers. I've been trying to buy a certain brand of spray paint for a month now. I can easily see how this type of thing might happen in the battery world. So, do you want to be ready for a month? Are you prepping for a full societal collapse? all of those would suggest different quantities. Seems like the general notion for each

Seems like a great approach to this would be to do a mental (Or if you feel like it an anctual physical written inventory) of devices you have and go from there. I feel like most household devices these days run on AA or AAA batteries, with 9V coming in third. Seems like C,D cells are becoming less common. Then there's the Coin batteries
